Public Safety Update for Minnetonka

A police chase along Interstates 394 and 494 was reported among other crimes.

Public Safety Report

  • This past week (Jan. 14-Jan. 20) Minnetonka police officers responded to 425 calls for service, initiated 315 traffic stops, made 24 custodial arrests and issued 102 citations for various traffic violations.
  •  The police department’s 2010 year-end statistical report was recently completed and will soon be available on the police page of the city website. Report highlights include 47,120 total calls for service (44,305 in 2009); criminal Part 1 and 2 crimes increasing slightly with 3,384 reported incidents (3,312 in 2009); traffic activity up slightly with 21,445 contacts (20,659 in 2009), and emergency calls decreasing to 5,557 total calls (5,892 in 2009).
  • Fire department training this week (Jan. 14-Jan. 20) included a presentation by the Minneapolis Police Department’s Bomb Squad on responder safety and device recognition.
  •  On Sunday, Jan. 16 the duty crew and chief officers, along with callback personnel from stations 1 and 2, responded to a mutual aid request from St. Louis Park for a chlorine spill at Knollwood Mall. Minnetonka crews assisted with incident management and provided personnel to support the incident. In addition, during the week, the duty crew responded to an injury crash, 10 medicals, a suspected carbon monoxide incident, seven lift assists and a false alarm. One callback of on-call firefighters was initiated.

Jan. 11

 3:14 p.m.: A woman, 47, from Brooklyn Center, Minn., was arrested at the Ridgedale Best Buy, for credit card fraud, a felony.

Jan. 12

1:44 p.m.: A man, 46, from Minneapolis, Minn., was arrested after leading Minnetonka Police on a chase along Interstates 394 and 494, for fleeing police, a felony.  In April 2010, this same man was found guilty, in Anoka County, of 4th degree DWI, a misdemeanor. He paid a fine of $410.

Jan. 14

1:20 a.m.: A man, 34, from Robbinsdale, Minn., was arrested at Interstate-394 and Plymouth Road, for 4th degree DWI, a misdemeanor.

3:05 a.m.: A woman, 36, from Minnetonka, Minn., was arrested at her home, in the 10400 block of Greenbriar Road, for 4th degree DWI, a misdemeanor.

Jan. 15

12:52 a.m.: A man, 27, from Minnetonka, Minn., was arrested in the 11000 block of Cedar Hills Boulevard, for domestic assault, a misdemeanor, and interference with a 911 call, a gross misdemeanor.

11:29 p.m.: A man, 26, from Crystal Lake, Minn., was arrested at the Sheraton Minneapolis West Hotel, for 4th degree DWI, a misdemeanor.

Jan. 16

2:39 a.m.: A man, 30, from Shorewood, Minn., was arrested at Highway 7 and Kings Drive, for 4th degree DWI, a misdemeanor.
