Driver Charged After High-Speed Chase, Shoplifting

The man is accused of leading police on a chase that reached speeds of 98 mph.

A man accused of leading officers on a high-speed chase after a Ridgedale shoplifting has been charged with two felonies, according to the City of Minnetonka.

Police say the man, who has not yet been identified, ran out of a Ridgedale Center store with several pairs of jeans Sept. 1. He was seen getting into a vehicle, and a witness gave the license plate number to police.

An officer in the area tried to stop the vehicle on eastbound Interstate 394, but the driver “accelerated and drove recklessly as he tried to elude police,” according to the city. The chase reached speeds faster than 98 mph.

The man eventually lost control of the vehicle and crashed into some trees. Officers then arrested him without incident.

On Sept. 4, prosecutors charged him with one count of fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle and one count of theft over $500, both felonies.
