College Student Catches Thieves With Mac Software

Two men have been charged with receiving stolen property.

A Gustavus Adolphus College student used software on his stolen laptop to help police track down the thieves, according to the City of Minnetonka.

On Sept. 7, three Gustavus Adolphus students reported that someone had stolen their laptops from their dorm rooms on the college campus. One of the students was able to use iCloud software on his computer to track his computer to a building at 5809 County Road 1010 in Minnetonka.

Officers went to the building and saw three men leaving, one of whom was carrying an Apple MacBook Pro. The serial number on the laptop matched the serial number of one of the stolen computers. Officers then searched the backpack of one of the other men and found the other two stolen computers.
