City of Minnetonka Appoints New Police Chief

Captain Jeff Sebenaler will succeed current Police Chief Mark Raquet, who is retiring May 31.

City Manager Geralyn Barone has appointed Minnetonka Police Department Captain Jeff Sebenaler as police chief effective June 1. 

Capt. Sebenaler will succeed current Police Chief Mark Raquet, who is retiring effective May 31.

“I’m confident in Captain Sebenaler’s ability to step into the chief’s position based on his solid police training and experience,” said Barone. “He’s level-headed and practical with a gift for understanding the human condition, and I know he’ll be an excellent addition to the city’s leadership team.”

Capt. Sebenaler, 51, has been with the Minnetonka Police Department since 1990, serving first as an officer, then as a sergeant before becoming captain. He began his law enforcement career in 1984 in Thief River Falls.

Capt. Sebenaler earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Bemidji State University and attended the Law Enforcement Skills Program at Alexandria Technical College. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va., an invitation-only professional course of study for U.S. and international law enforcement leaders.

Capt. Sebenaler lives in Chanhassen with his wife and two sons.
