Camera Gets Revenge, Minnetonka Woman Charged With Felony

Minnetonka resident reportedly spray-painted herself into a court date.

A Minnetonka woman who reportedly spray-painted the lenses of four security cameras in her condo complex was identified, in part, from images captured by those same cameras.

Cheri Marie Jacques, 55,  has been charged with vandalizing cameras that had been recently installed within the complex, at 3020 St. Albans Mill Road. Investigators also believe Jacques spray-painted glass doors and an elevator panel at the complex.

Minnetonka police responded to the complex after a call from a fellow tenant, who reportedly witnessed the spray-painting. That first-hand account, along with video from a surveillance camera, pointed police to Jacques. Investigators say Jacques told them she sprayed the cameras because she was angry the condo association spent money to purchase them, as she deemed them unnecessary.

Costs for replacing the four cameras and cleaning the ceiling tiles and doors are estimated at more than  $7,000. Hennepin County attorneys have charged Jacques with two counts of felony first-degree property damage. If convicted, she faces up to 10 years in prison.
