Letter: Selcer's Bill Would Allow School Boards to Extend Referendum

'I believe voters deserve the right to make their own decision on local school funding,' State Rep. Kelby Woodard.

To the editor,

Rep. Yvonne Selcer has authored a bill in the Minnesota House of Representatives that would deny local taxpayers the right to decide whether to extend a school referendum.

If this bill were to become law, Minnesotans would lose their right to determine local school funding levels through the democratic process. Rep. Selcer's legislation (H.F. 234) would allow school boards to decide whether to extend a referendum past the point the voters initially intended. I believe voters deserve the right to make their own decision on local school funding.

Please join me in urging Rep. Selcer to support taxpayers, voters, and Minnesota students by not expanding the power of a few to make critical local taxing and funding decisions.

Sincerely,
