Letter: Former Minneapolis Superintendent Supports Selcer

"She was a driving force in her school district to increase rigor and accountability, while engaging responsibly during a fiscal crisis, establishing sound business practices for her district and returning it to a position of strength."

To the Editor:

I am supporting Yvonne Selcer in her bid for the state house representing Minnetonka and Eden Prairie.  As a former superintendent of schools in Minneapolis, I was struck by Selcer's strong leadership on her school board on behalf of all students.  She was a driving force in her school district to increase rigor and accountability, while engaging responsibly during a fiscal crisis, establishing sound business practices for her district and returning it to a position of strength.

I ran for governor in 2006 as an independence party candidate and, like the many other locally elected officials who have endorsed her, I know that she will be an independent voice, listening to her constituents, putting the people before her party.  I have known Yvonne's co-chair, Karen Anderson, a moderate Republican for many years, and her position in Yvonne's campaign also speaks volumes about Yvonne's integrity, strength of character, and how she will serve the people of Eden Prairie and Minnetonka.

The people of Minnesota need elected officials who can work together and solve our budget problems, returning our state to a position of greatness, not a place that solves its problems by borrowing from its schools and pushing debts to the future.  I urge voters to remember Yvonne Selcer on election day.

That's an awfully nice letter for someone whose largest accomplishment on the school board was borrowing more money to solve those fiscal issues; therefore burdening tax payers with an extra $3k in taxes. Hardly the kind of representative SD48A should send to St Paul. A vote for Selcer is a vote for more taxes and government. No thanks!!!!!

A nice letter for a deserving candidate. A candidate who can be proud of her past achievements and who would bring much needed integrity to St. Paul. Vote for Yvonne Selcer on November 6th.

Selcer has spent taxpayers funds, to point of putting Hopkins school system in debt. She is not responsible. Just look at her spending record. Watch out for these Liberal spending Progressives. Vote Kirk Stensrud

ghoweey: PLEASE get your facts straight before making public comments. Yvonne Selcer has been instrumental in putting the Hopkins School District on solid financial footing, as evidenced by the on-line VIDEO of the Hopkins audit report meeting that is posted on her website: www.yvonneselcer.com. Fellow voters: please check out this video, and look at the public records and facts yourself! Don't be misled by the labels that people are trying to throw at hard-working public servants such as Yvonne. Thank you!

Lori, it's you who needs to get her facts straight. Under Selcer’s tender mercies, Hopkins has gained $120 million more in debt and now boasts the highest cost per pupil average of any surrounding district. Additionally, if she did such a great job ‘fixing’ Hopkins, then explain why there is a mass exodus from HSD to Edina and MTKA? Click the link for the head to head comparison of costs: http://www.sd48gop.com/HopkinsRebuttal.pdf Looking at the actual numbers shows that she kicked the financial can down the road for future taxpayers and school boards to deal with and that’s no way to run a government. Her surrogates claim she’s the ‘adult in the room’ and we should send her to St. Paul to do there what she did in Hopkins. If the DFL call increasing the debt load of every Hopkins taxpayer by $3000 as being the “adult in the room” then they have a very strange definition of adult responsibility. None of that constitutes putting Hopkins ‘on solid financial footing’ as you claim.

Lori, Selcer is not a public servant. She doesn't serve the public, ie. the taxpayers. She serves herself and her DFL cronies. She serves the cause of a liberal dogma with all of her actions and beliefs. She is just wrong for the district.
Doug Lind October 24, 2012 at 03:57 PM
And do nothing Kirk S, who is so ignorant of law, he gets letters of Reprimand from Eden Prairie and Henneipin County, is right for our district? So he's a small businessman and has a family. Hooray. Anything else to say after 2 years?
David October 24, 2012 at 07:15 PM
Doug is as ignorant of the law as the rest of the DFL. Stensrud did NOT do anything wrong. The DFL can't read the law. The whole 'evidence' that the expo was a supposed 'campaign event' is the disclaimer on the materials. If Doug and the rest of the DFL ACTUALLY KNEW the law, they'd know that state statute REQUIRES that disclaimer on EVERYTHING put out by a representative when the legislature is not in session. See the statute here: Minn. Stat. 10A.01, subd. 26. #6 in subd. 26 covers the definition of constituent services. https://www.revisor.mn.gov/statutes/?id=10A.01 John Mallo brought a false accusation to the DFL hacks at Hennepin County and they didn't check the law, they just issued the letter. It's a reprimand based on a lie put out by partisan DFL agitators. So much for the impartial and professional attorneys at HCAG's office. And 'do nothing' Kirk saved Doug and the rest of us $5 million a year, EVERY YEAR by sponsoring and getting passed a bill that audits the healthcare payments taxpayers provide to government workers. Seems all those years of DFL control resulted in several thousand people getting benefits paid for by us that they had no right to receive. That's $5 million saved each and every year from now on. You do the math. So when you read anything like Doug's comment, just remember it's a lie. Look at the law yourself - that'll be more than the DFL or Hennepin Cty attorneys did.
Doug Lind October 24, 2012 at 08:55 PM
OK, you know more than the attorneys in both EP and Henn County. I don't lie. It's a word you use for everything and everyone your brainwashed, biased brain disagrees with. In your world it's simple: everything the all-knowing GOP does is great, everything the opposition does is evil, stupid. Try reality sometime.
Doug Lind October 24, 2012 at 09:02 PM
SIMPLE FACT. EP and HENN CO require PERMISSION before using their logos. No permission was sought or granted. Either KS was ignorant or deceitful or both. Take your pick. Quoting law is a smokescreen. Both EP and HENN CO. reviewed and studied this situation before acting, Mr. Know-it-all.
Wm Shears October 24, 2012 at 10:06 PM
David, I'd be careful calling people "ignorant" and a liar. People in glass houses, you know. I'll wait for you to respond, "I never said HE was a liar, I said...." don't waste your breath. You're a flamethrower for the GOP. Worse than that, you're a punk and a bully. Go away.
David October 24, 2012 at 10:07 PM
The law is clear. The HC attorney is a political partisan. It's the only reason he'd issue a letter without checking the statute. And a liberal telling me to try reality while ignoring the MN statute on the books is rich.
David October 24, 2012 at 10:25 PM
And imagine the irony of Shears admonishing me for calling names and then calls me names. LOL You can't make this stuff up, folks. The Liberal mindset on display for all to see. Thanks for being yet another example of it, Shears.
David October 24, 2012 at 11:04 PM
Simple Fact: Stensrud received permission to use the HC logo because they agreed to attend. We have a pic of the HC workers in front of their display (which included the logo) at the event. If we didn't have permission to use it, then explain why they brought it along with them for the event? As for EP, the office already apologized for promoting the City to seniors. Got that? And you have no proof that HC reviewed ANYTHING before acting, that is a lie. The independent lawyer that was brought in to draft the response laughed asking why HC didn't check the statute before acting. It was obvious Stensrud was within the law and the DFL agitators who ginned up this deal don't understand it.

In your post, David, who are you talking to? Are you under a delusion that people care what you think? You just have a LOT of time on your hands to practice your craft of spreading Republican manure and trying to be clever by insulting people. You, my friend, live a very, very small life.
