Minnetonka Rotary / Rotarian of the Year Guy Marzano

On June 26th 2013, Bob Hersman on his last day as President of the Minnetonka Rotary presented the award of Rotarian of the Year to Guy Marzano.  Bob enthusiastically shook Guys hand and presented him with the award in the picture.  During the presentation Bob went on to state, “This plaque says Rotarian of the Year for 2012 – 2013, but this award is for you as an individual and really represents a body of work, over time, that you have shown consistent dedication to this club.  By your constant involvement you are living out the ‘Service Above Self ‘ that exemplifies the true spirit of Rotary.”

Bob went on to explain that Guy as a past president of the club has shown leadership skills previously.  Those skills continue and that this year included the following.  “Guy was the fundraising chair for the annual Minnetonka Rotary Charity Golf Outing ( two years running ).  Guy set, and achieved, the goal to exceed each years fundraising efforts.  Guy as the Minnetonka Rotary Foundation President this past year has helped to manage the foundation and rewrite the bylaws to reflect the intent that this arm of our rotary club needed to guide it through future years. Guy has brought more new members into our club than any other member.”

Guy was a little surprised, but moved forward to accept the award.  He said that he has tried to live up to the ideals of rotary and he was always ready to participate.  When questioned, he went on to add that when he was the President of the Minnetonka Rotary that he enjoyed it and was sorry to see his term end.  Guy, for once, was a little short on words, but humbly accepted the award.

Observation:  The world is looking for leaders. True leaders accept the awards that come to them.  True leaders reluctantly give up the reins to new leaders and move on.  True leaders, such as Guy Marzano, will always find a new role to use their leadership skills. Congratulations Guy Marzano !
