TAKE A BREAK!

Too often when taking care of our loved ones, we will get burned out!!! I believe that parenting is the hardest job ever! It is 24/7, 365 days a year.

Taking care of a parent is no different. You have to look after them, care for them, feed them, you name it - they are now under your care and you just became their caregiver now. You have my utmost respect.

However…Don't forget about yourself in the whole process. There are ways that you can get breaks and not feel guilty. But first, you need to allow yourself the break. You are no good to the one you are caring for if you don't care for you.

The first thought is utilize other family members to assist you.  If there is no one available, how about friends/neighbors? Talk with them and just ask if they can help you out. The worse thing that can happen is they are busy.

If you still can't find help, how about respite or day care? Both options have a temporary window of time so you are not locked into a long term contract. What if you wanted to go on that retreat with the church or have a vacation? Respite Care is great as you would have trained caregivers to assist you along with on-call medical personnel to assist. Or you just need a break during the day to get errands ran or you still have to work your day job? Senior Day Cares are wonderful for this! You can pick and chose your days - 1 day a week or 5 days a week. OPTIONS! That's the ticket!

Also remember, maybe your loved one needs a break to get out of the house and be with others. It is a two way street for both of you.

Feel free to comment or contact us for further explanation of benefits for these two services. They are all around you! Remember it is about quality of life!

Have an awesome Friday and enjoy your weekend!
