Swim Team Rallies Behind Former Coach Battling Cancer

An account has been established in his name called 'The Tim Daly Beat Cancer Fund.'

Former Minnetonka swim coach Tim Daly was selected by his peers seven times as Section Coach of the Year and four times as State Coach of the Year.

In October of this year, Daly was diagnosed as having stage three colon cancer and stage four esophageal cancer.

Originally from Bloomington, Daly started out as the Minnetonka High School Swimming and Diving Head Coach in 1982. In his years at the helm, the Skippers were consistently one of the top teams in the state, earning eight conference titles, seven section championships, six state crowns, and a dual meet record of 156-71.

Individually, there were forty-four state champions, twenty-four set state records, and one national record. He also served three years as president of the Girls Minnesota Swimming Coaches Association. Daly is also an inductee into the Minnesota Swimming Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

Daly is currently in chemotherapy treatment and is responding well. Although the stages of cancer are very serious, he maintains a positive attitude and is trying to live his life as close to normal as possible.
