Update: Injured Minnetonka Boy Walks

Sam Seward,10, was struck by a car on April 12 in Minnetonka.

Sam Seward, 10, has been upgraded from serious to satisfactory condition, according to a Hennepin County Medical Center spokeswoman. Seward was struck and badly injured by a car on April 12 in Minnetonka.

According to the most recent post by Seward’s father on the boy’s CaringBridge page, Seward is currently undergoing physical therapy, which requires him to stand, with assistance, and take about ten steps at a time.

“He can't get up or walk without assistance but it is really nice to see him up,” Seward’s father wrote. “He still can't talk until his trach [tracheal tube] comes out but he is no longer needing breathing assistance.”

The accident happened only yards from Seward's home in the 13500 block of Excelsior Boulevard. He underwent surgery two days after the accident to remove parts of his skull—relieving pressure on his brain.  Although eyewitnesses have offered conflicting accounts of the accident, according to the CaringBridge page, Seward "was struck by a car going to play basketball across the street from his home.”

“He was put into his convertible chair and went downstairs and outside for the first time in seven weeks. It was a nice sunny day, really windy, and I am sure he enjoyed it,” Sam’s father wrote May 31.
