Student Accidentally Brings BB Gun to Junior High School in Minnetonka

It was discovered during a routine conversation.

A student inadvertently brought a BB gun to school May 17, according to and Hopkins Public Schools.

The student brought the gun to school by accident and it was discovered “in a routine discussion with the student,” the school district stated.

The district could not disclose the gender or the age of the student because that is considered private information, school spokeswoman Jolene Goldade said.

Goldade said the district followed its weapons policy and administered discipline per that policy.

The district has a “zero tolerance” policy toward weapons. Discipline may range from confiscation of the weapon to expulsion, subject to the discretion of the administration.

The policy also makes an exception for students who discover they accidentally have a weapon in their possession and turn them over to school staff.

The district notified local parents immediately after the incident.
