UPDATED: Hail, Funnel Cloud Reported in Area

A tornado watch was issued for Minnetonka Tuesday evening.

UPDATE (Wed 12:19 p.m.): According to the city, there was no major damage reported in the city because of Tuesday's storm.

UPDATE (Tue 8:52 p.m.): The tornado warning issued earlier for Hennepin County has been pulled back. A less-severe tornado watch remains in effect until midnight.

Large hail was reported throughout the west metro, and  near Highway 169 and Excelsior Boulevard in Hopkins, but no severe damage has been reported in Minnetonka. 

ORIGINAL STORY (Tue 7:45 p.m.):The National Weather Service in Chanhassen has issued a tornado watch and a storm warning, urging residents to take shelter immediately and prepare for an onslaught of large hail as a severe storm makes its way through the area.

"Seek shelter now inside a sturdy structure and stay away from the windows," the agency advised in the warning, which was issues at 7:23 p.m.

The warning applies to Minnetonka and the Lake Minnetonka area as well as Eden Prairie, Edina and Hopkins. 

The warning will last until 8:30 p.m. The storm could potentially produce quarter-sized hail and high winds. 

At about 7:50, the agency also issued a tornado watch for Dakota, Scott, Hennepin, Ramsey, Carver, Washington, Anoka and Rice. The warning will end at midnight.
