Minnetonka Schools Call on Community to Help Local Tornado Victims

Today only: donations are being collected at all Minnetonka Schools for families devastated by the tornado in North Minneapolis last month.

All Minnetonka schools are holding a one day food and clothing drive today, June 6, to benefit families at Lucy Laney Elementary School(K-8)  in North Minneapolis. They have asked for help from the community following last month's tornado.

The schools are asking local families to clean out closets/cabinets and donate. Needs include:

·   Practical, clean, gently used summer clothes (shorts, pants, jeans, shirts, socks, underwear, shoes) for boys and girls, newborn through grade 8.

·  Nonperishable food (canned or dry foods)

·  Sundries (toothpaste, tooth brushes, soap, kids shampoo)

·   Disposable diapers

Please put clothing donations in plastic kitchen garbage bags labeled Boy or Girl, with the size of clothing, and drop off Monday in the lobby of any Minnetonka Elementary or Middle School. Minnetonka High School will collect nonperishable food only.

Following Hurricane Katrina, the Tonka Pride community filled a semi-truck with food for those in need in Mississippi.  And they hope to reach a comparable level of donations for our Minnesota neighbors in North Minneapolis.
