Minnetonka's Summer Festival Celebrates 34th Year!

Minnetonka's 34th Annual Summer Festival and Burwell House Old-Fashioned Ice Cream Social is Saturday.

Minnetonka’s 34th Annual Summer Festival and Burwell House Old-Fashioned Summer is Saturday, June 25! The annual event will feature favorites like the 8K race and tot trot, self-guided Burwell House tours, arts and crafts fair, collectibles market, kids’ activities, police K9 demonstrations, open skating and fireworks.

If music’s your thing, enjoy performances by the Music Association of Minnetonka, Splatter Sisters and R-Factor at Summer Festival. At the Burwell House hear the Minnetonka Community Band and the always-popular Medicine Show Band.

New this year, staffed bike corrals will be available for bikers to secure their bikes during events at the Burwell House from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and at the Civic Center between 4 and 11 p.m. And those using the bike corrals will be entered into a drawing to win free prizes.

Also this year, the Summer Festival and Ice Cream Social are instituting organics/compost collection for waste. All food vendors will be providing compostable serving ware that can be disposed of in the organics collections bins, along with any food waste. Recycling bins will be available for cans and plastic bottles, and trash cans for any non-compostable, non-recyclable items.

Burwell House Old-Fashioned Ice Cream Social

10 a.m.–4 p.m.

Arts, Crafts and Collectibles Market

Browse and buy the work of many local artists and crafters, including pottery, jewelry, hand-crafted soaps, textiles, handwork, woodwork, birdhouses and more. Also enjoy a stroll through reminders of the past at the collectibles market. No sales before 10 a.m.

10:30 a.m.

Mini-parade

Everyone is invited to join this old-fashioned hometown parade. Decorate your bikes, wear costumes, make your own music—reveal your creativity! Meet at the old town hall (on the grounds of the Mills Church) and follow Minnetonka’s first fire engine to the Burwell House. All participants receive a treat.

11 a.m.–3:30 p.m.

  • Musical entertainment by the Medicine Show Band and Minnetonka Community Band
  • Free self-guided tours of the , listed on the National Register of Historic Places
  • Children’s activities, including spin art offered by local art gallery
  • Try out working, antique hand-crank telephones and a telegraph machine
  • Put out a fire with the ’s extinguisher simulator
  • Walk the history maze
  • Food and ice cream available to purchase (Volunteers are always needed to scoop ice cream, call 952.939.8219 if you’d like to help!)

34th Annual Summer Festival

Sporting events

  • 8K (5 Mile) Race: 7:30 a.m., $20 ($25 Race Day): Race day registration is available beginning at 6:30 a.m. The race begins and ends in front of the Minnetonka Ice Arena on the Civic Center Campus. The 8K race is run on a certified course in a scenic wooded area with rolling hills and is police patrolled. Two water stations are provided.
  • Tot Trot: Ages 2–8, 4 p.m., free: The annual Children’s Tot Trot will take place 4 p.m. again this year. This free event for boys and girls ages 2 through 8 is run through the Ice Arena parking lot. Route is approximately one-half to two blocks long (distance dependent upon age). No registration is required. All participants will receive a race number at the start line and a medal at the finish line. Come for the race and stay for all of the Summer Festival activities! Please check in at the Summer Festival Information Tent.

Civic Center

All activities are free, excluding food. Restrooms are available in Ice Arena A and B, Police Department, City Hall, Community Center, and on the Summer Fest grounds

  • Fireworks! The grand finale—a spectacular finish to a great day! After the fireworks, beat the traffic by staying for a 30-minute encore performance by the R-Factor.

The R-Factor has provided back up for Michael Bolton, Celine Dion, Huey Lewis, Donny Osmond and Smokey Robinson. New this year: New this year, the R-Factor will provide a 30-minute encore performance after the fireworks show.
