Hotter Than Heck

Thursday could be the hottest day of the year.

The National Weather Service in Chanhassen has issued a heat advisory for the Twin Cities metro area, including Minnetonka. 

Temperatures are expected to climb into the high 90s this afternoon. That, combined with high humidty levels, will push the heat index well over 100 by later in the day, and could potentially hit 105 degrees. 

The Excessive Heat Watch begins lasts through Friday morning. Those susceptible to heat stress are being encouraged to stay in a climate controlled environment whenever possible and drink plenty of fluids.

According to the state relased by the NWS: 

A HOT AND MUGGY AIR MASS WILL MOVE INTO THE AREA ON THURSDAY AND CONTINUE INTO THE OVERNIGHT HOURS. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE LOWER TO MID 90S ALONG WITH SURGING DEW POINTS EXPECTED TO CLIMB WELL INTO THE 70S...WILL CREATE HEAT INDEX VALUES OVER 100 DEGREES THURSDAY AFTERNOON AND EARLY EVENING. TEMPERATURES WILL REMAIN IN THE 70S THROUGH MUCH OF THE OVERNIGHT. THE INNER DOWNTOWN AREAS OF THE METRO WILL BE THE MOST SUSCEPTIBLE TO THE HOT AND HUMID CONDITIONS.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTIONS IF YOU WORK OR SPEND TIME OUTSIDE. WHEN POSSIBLE...RESCHEDULE STRENUOUS ACTIVITIES TO EARLY MORNING OR EVENING. KNOW THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF HEAT EXHAUSTION AND HEAT STROKE. WEAR LIGHT WEIGHT AND LOOSE FITTING CLOTHING WHEN POSSIBLE AND DRINK PLENTY OF WATER.
