Gun Found on Convicted Burglar After He Allegedly Defied Police

Eden Prairie Police say they found a gun on a Minneapolis man who has a previous conviction for first degree burglary in 2007.

Just after 4 p.m. on May 29, Eden Prairie Police were dispatched to Parkway Apartments on a report that four people were smoking pot in the underground garage.

One of the men police met in the garage was Mustafa Ahmed Mohamed, 24. Officers say Mohamed became fidgety and put his hands inside his jacket pockets, even though police told him twice to keep his hands visible.

Police took Mohamed to the rear of a minivan. According to the complaint, he started speaking to the other men in another language. Right after, one of the men began to disobey police orders. As police dealt with the other man, Mohamed walked away from police to the front of the minivan and lay down next to the front driver's side wheel.

His hands weren't visible, according to police, and they used a taser on him.

An officer who searched the area found a black handgun tucked behind the front driver's side wheel of the minivan where Mohamed had just been. Police say they found an ammunition magazine and single bullet on Mohamed when he was searched.

Mohamed was charged with one felony count of prohibited person in possession of a firearm. If convicted, he will receive between 5-15 years and/or $30,000.
