Grab & Go: Enjoy Carnival, Learn Manners This Weekend

In need of a few kid-friendly things to do this weekend? Minnetonka Patch has it covered.

Welcome to another edition of the Grab & Go Kids Planner. We've once again assembled a weekly calendar of kid-friendly activities and new places to try out with the entire family.

You're already crunched for time, so we're happy to do the research and find the best things to do and places to go, both locally and within reasonable striking distance.

Where/When: ; 10 a.m – 12 p.m., Saturday Feb. 19.

Why go: A free carnival--Need I say more? This family fun fest will offer up food, games, prizes, drawings!

Price: Free in exchange for a non-perishable food item.

When/Where: ; Offered in two sessions: 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. and 11:15 a.m.- 12:15 p.m., Saturday Feb. 19.

Why go: Why not go? For children ages 18mo-5yrs, this gym is perfect for running, throwing balls, climbing and playing games. Open gym is Space is limited, so don't be late!

Price: Free.

Where/When: The Works, 5701 Normandale Road, Edina; 1-3 p.m., Saturday Feb. 19.

Why go: The Works is a "hands-on, minds-on" museum for kids and their families that makes learning about engineering, science and technology interesting, understandable and fun. Find out what architects and civil engineers do as you explore structure, scale and design by using real tools to build a small-scale skyscraper. The process takes about 15-20 minutes.

Price: The exhibit is free with admission. Tickets to the museum are $5 per person age 3 and over.

 

Children’s Manners and Dining Etiquette

Where/When: , 5100 Wooddale Ave., Edina; 10 a.m.-1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 19. Registration begins at 9:45 a.m.

Why go: Have you wondered if your child is on their best behavior when away from home? Does your child remember to shake hands and introduce him or herself when meeting new people? Does your child understand how to use the placeware at a formal meal? Provide your child with the skills to be successful and build self-esteem, character, confidence and social skills through an age appropriate interactive class on etiquette. Call 763-432-9008 to register ahead of time.

Price: $119, with lunch included.

Twoosy Doodlers

Where/When: Gallery, 3700 Monterey Dr., St. Louis Park; 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 18.

Why go: This event is for 20-to-48-month-old children. Their little fingers experiment with printing, gluing, sticking, printing and creating while developing fine motor, language and self-help skills. Each class introduces a new artist or art technique and each child leaves class with a framed piece of art. This program runs every Friday through March 25.

Price: $81 for St. Louis Park residents, $89 for non-residents for all Friday classes through March 25.

Theater Performance of 'Mean'

Where/When: Youth Performance Company, 1900 Nicollet Ave., Minneapolis; 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19 and 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 20.

Why go: Almost daily there are accounts in the media of students being mean to one another, often resulting in tragic consequences. YPC tackles the tough subject of bullying and much more in this original drama. Recommended for fourth graders and up.

Price: $12 for adults, $10 for children.
