Divers Recover Body of Drowning Victim from Lake Minnetonka

Just over 24 hours after Kennedy Maddox disappeared under the water near Big Island, divers recovered his body Wednesday evening.

The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office has recovered the body of a drowning victim from Lake Minnetonka.

The victim, a 20-year-old man from Minnetonka identified by friends and family as Kennedy Maddox, had been missing since 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 26.

Witnesses reported that the victim had jumped off of a boat into the lake to swim. He began to struggle and never resurfaced. Four other people who were on the boat, were unable to locate him.

The group was on a 20-foot pleasure craft off the south end of Big Island at the time.

The Sheriff’s Office has been conducting an ongoing search since responding to the incident yesterday. Today, sonar equipment located the victim’s body in 67 feet of water, approximately one mile from Big Island. Members of the Sheriff’s Office Dive Team made the recovery at 6:20 p.m.
