Athletes Need Chiropractic & You Do Too!

Your body is meant to function year after year, but how can you expect to place demands on your body without making sure your body is capable of handling those demands?

Athletes use chiropractic to stay at their best and you should too.

When you are active in sports or activities, your health is better than the “couch potato.”  However, your joints may be under repetitive loading and/or injury from motions sustained in the sport or contact.  Think of a runner:  their feet hit the ground and the load transfers to their ankles, knees, hips and spine.  A baseball player:  their shoulder levers back to throw as their spine twists to generate more power.  Rugby/Football/Contact Sports:  when getting hit from behind the torso goes forward while the head extends backwards.  At times there is compressive force on the head at the same time.  The head then hits the ground.  Also, they experience repeated sprained ankles and associated headaches and burners- these go away, but the effects continue to build for years.

In all these activities, the motion is performed again and again and again.  If the body is properly aligned, there should be no problem continuing year after year.  But what if the body is not properly aligned?  What happens in 10, 20, or 30 years?  Everyone knows we bounced back faster at a younger age than we do now (adaptation).  Maybe you are sitting there thinking, my neck, back, knees, etc., hurt.  Maybe you cannot do what you once enjoyed previously because your body is aging and “old.”  In my opinion, that is no way to live. That’s getting through, getting by.  Your life is meant to be LIVED.

I’m here to tell you that “old” doesn’t have to happen.  Your body is meant to function year after year, but how can you expect to place demands on your body without making sure your body is capable of handling those demands?  And how do you know if it can?  Is there an app for that? Chiropractic care keeps your innate intelligence working, so it can alert you when something is wrong.  This may mean pain, repeat injuries, headaches, and so on.  Sometimes, these signals go away over time as your body adapts to protect your health from falling away towards disease and sickness.  However, your body does not always adapt in the best way, and so you should still be checked for subluxation to ensure your nervous system is giving and receiving proper signals.  Athletes have some of the worst spinal problems I see in the office (at any age) due to the repetitive wear and tear on their joints which is exacerbated when alignment is not optimal.  When you are fully connected, your journey on earth can be joyful and steady.
