Vertebral Technologies, Inc. Hires Chief Operating Officer

Vertebral Technologies, Inc. (VTI), a Minnetonka medical device company, has hired Howie Milstein to be its chief operating officer, effective June 2, 2014.  Milstein brings more than 25 years of device company leadership to VTI, with extensive experience in the orthopedic and cardiac surgery arenas.

Milstein will focus on driving market growth for VTI’s spinal fusion implants while providing operational oversight throughout the organization’s commercialization team. The company has an extensive patent portfolio for products on the market and in development. Milstein will be contributing to all aspects of the company’s business.

“The spinal space is one of the most competitive and complex within the entire realm of medical devices, and I am fully embracing the challenges the company faces to succeed”, said Milstein.  His novel brand of leadership, which incorporates operational lightheartedness and bringing a sense of humor to work, supports a culture where core values are readily apparent by customers, and employees are free to innovate, collaborate and take risks that may occasionally result in failure.

“Employee engagement is my passion”, said Milstein. “It takes hitting on all cylinders to thrive in our continually-evolving healthcare environment, and it’s incredibly difficult without employee commitment.”

Given VTI’s highly differential modular interbody fusion technology platform, called “InterFuse”, Milstein’s goal is to optimize market penetration through telling “an amazing clinical story”.

VTI chief executive officer, Jeffery Felt, MD, welcomes the creative energy Milstein will bring.  “I've known Howie for almost 30 years, and I still want him at my side” said Dr. Felt.  “He has a pedigree of success and ability to connect deeply with our customer base.”
