Power Outage Costs Ridgedale Businesses Thousands

Target and nearby restaurants suffered from the effects of the storm.

The power outage from this weekend’s storm forced the Ridgedale Target to empty its refrigerated and frozen shelves. The Ridgedale Center Big Bowl tallied losses in the “double-digit” thousands after it had to close for about 48 hours. The Big Bowl Chinese Express in the nearby Byerly’s also had to close.

Those were just some of the hardships Minnetonka businesses suffered as a result of the widespread power outages, according to the Minneapolis St. Paul Business journal.

About half of Ridgedale Center’s shops and restaurants lost power—although the three main department stores did not endure outages. Bed, Bath & Beyond had limited power but was able to stay open.

Power was out at many businesses along Plymouth Road. Breadsmith was able to stay open by having its breads made in another location, employees told a Patch editor. Employees took cash and used old-fashioned manual credit card readers to accept payment.
