Places to Swim in Minnetonka: Shady Oak Beach

Shady Oak Beach is a summertime favorite in Minnetonka. Whether you're into swimming, diving, soaking up the sun, canoeing, fishing or volleyball, the beach has something for people of all ages.
"There's so many different aspects to the beach. The big dock is probably the most popular amenity," said Jenny Garvey, program and aquatics manager for the city of Minnetonka.

Now, families have even one more reason to spend their free time at Shady Oak Beach this summer — a newly-built, multi-age playground area.
"It's what I would call 'dry play,'" Garvey said. "There are also water elements to play with... We're very excited about our new playground area."

The playground area includes swing sets, slides, a "fossil dig," jungle gym, and a mister.
While parking at the beach is plentiful, Garvey stressed that the area also has new bike and walking paths that people are encouraged to use.
"Tt does alleviate parking, but it also encourages people to have that kind of healthier option of transportation," she said.
