On the Agenda: Big Thrill Factory

The Minnetonka City Council will host a public hearing on the recreation facility this evening.

The planning commission recommends that the council approve a conditional use permit for a restaurant and variances with outdoor seating area, an interim use permit for outdoor entertainment and a site and building plan review.

Minnetonka staff said because this is a new business type to both Minnetonka and the metro area, there are some "unknowns" that may prove to be good or bad. However, they find that the proposal is reasonable and an appropriate use for the buidling that has been vacant.

The Big Thrill Factory will be a multipurpose recreational facility in 33,750 square feet of the former Kmart on Highway 101 and County Road 7 (17501 Highway 7). Activities in the new recreation center include bowling, bumper cars, laser tag, arcade, climbing walls and a mini golf course.

The center will include a café serving food and alcoholic beverages, complete with a party area. It will include 13,839 square feet of outdoor space for mini golf, trampolines, slides, spider climbs and face off – a jousting contest.
