More Shopping Opportunities Could Come to Highway 7

Lakewest Development Co. wants to change the first floor of an office building into retail space.

Lakewest Development Co. plans to revitalize a near-vacant Highway 7 office complex by adding retail space to the lower level.

The 55,000-square-foot Woodhill Plaza building at 14525 Highway 7—between Williston Road and Woodhill Road—has been only about 30 percent occupied for some time.

Lakewest is asking Minnetonka to rezone the property from an office to commercial site so it could transform the property into a mixed-use building, according to a request filed with the city. The main floor would become retail space while the second and third floors would remain as office space.

The company would also build a new entrance on the back of the building, add landscaping and remodel the interior and exterior, among other improvements.

“The proposed site plan vastly improves upon visual aesthetics and adds to the improvements that are occurring along Highway 7 to revitalize the corridor,” the developer wrote in its request to the city.

The request did not state whether any specific companies or restaurants have committed to moving into the building if the plan goes through.

The City Council plans to introduce the rezoning ordinance change at its July 15 meeting. The Planning Commission will review the project Aug. 1. The City Council is scheduled to review the project Aug. 26.
