Minnetonka Sears Survives Closures

The Sears store at Ridgedale will remain open, in light of an announcement today that Sears is closing over 100 Sears and Kmart stores.

If you shop at the store, there is no need to be alarmed.

Ridgedale Sears staff told Patch that the store will remain open and operating as usual, even with the announcement today that Sears will close between 100 and 120 Sears and Kmart stores company-wide, due to poor holiday shopping sales.

In an internal memo Tuesday to employees, CEO and President Lou D'Ambrosio said that the retailer had not "generated the results we were seeking during the holiday," according to today's Associated Press article

Sears Holdings Corp. said it has yet to determine which stores will close but said it will post on http://www.searsmedia.com when a final list is compiled. Sears would not discuss how many, if any, jobs would be cut. The company has more than 4,000 stores in the U.S. and Canada.

Stores targeted for closing were mostly among Sears’ 2,100 specialty retail locations, including 53 National Tire and Battery stores and 30 hardware stores, reports ABC News.

Just four of its 860 full-line department stores will be affected, in Voorhees, NJ, Scottsdale, AZ, Owings Mills, MD, and Homestead, FL.
