Minnetonka-Based Communications Systems Inc. Lays off 12

The lay-offs happened because of sales decline in one of its business units.

Minnetonka-based Communications Systems Inc. laid off 12 employees following a sales drop for its Transition Networks business unit, which makes components for integrating fiber-optic cable into data networks, the Star Tribune reported.

The unit had sales declines of 16 percent in the first quarter compared to the same time last year. The layoffs equate to 8 percent of the 150-employee Transition Networks business unit.
