Bites Nearby: Sandy's Tavern Serving Best Burgers for 80 years

Sandy's Tavern uses fresh beef and "hands-only" doctrine to ensure diners get the most out of their burger experience.

is a Minneapolis institution. Built in the 1930s by the original owner, Sandy, to model a farmhouse, it continued to be a strong business until the owner died in the establishment. There are some that believe that Sandy still haunts the Tavern to this day. New owners updated the kitchen and developed the “best burger” in the Twin Cities and the famous olive burger.

In addition to the olive burger, which is a cheeseburger with green olives and sour cream, Sandy’s also serves a bacon and egg burger, Sandy’s sizzler burger with several types of cheese, mushroom swiss burgers, hot dogs, fish sandwiches, BLTs, pork tenderloin sandwiches, chicken fillets, BBQ beef sandwiches and their own version of chicken nuggets.  Sides include French fries, onion rings, cheese curds, jalapeno bites, tater tots, Tex Mex rolls, mini tacos and mini corn-dogs.

To complement your burger, Sandy’s offers many different beers on tap and in the bottle, as well as old-fashioned sodas and soft drinks. The restaurant doesn’t provide silverware, so diners must use their hands. Plenty of napkins are provided to mop up the delicious mess these burgers create. If you only have time to stop by, Sandy’s offers its menu to go so you can take the fun home.
