Big Thrill Factory Takes Next Step Toward Reality

After an approval by Minnetonka's Planning Commission, the plans move onto the City Council on Oct. 8.

The Big Thrill Factory rec center was approved Thursday night by Minnetonka's Planning Comission and plans will make their way in front of the Minnetonka City Council on Oct. 8.

Some code changes must be made by the City Council regarding the outdoor entertainment ordinance before the whole plan can be approved.

Because some of the activities will take place outside, Minnetonka staff anticipates that some noise will occur. However, staff says they cannot assume that the noise will be a violation of any ordinance, so both the city and The Big Thrill Factory will address it–if it becomes a problem.

Minnetonka staff said because this is a new business type to both Minnetonka and the metro area, there are some "unknowns" that may prove to be good or bad. However, they find that the proposal is reasonable and an appropriate use for the buidling that has been vacant.

in 33,750 square feet of the former Kmart on Highway 101 and County Road 7 (17501 Highway 7). Activities in the new recreation center include bowling, bumper cars, laser tag, arcade, climbing walls and a mini golf course.

The center will include a café serving food and alcoholic beverages, complete with a party area. It will include 13,839 square feet of outdoor space for mini golf, trampolines, slides, spider climbs and face off – a jousting contest.
