Royal Page Racks Up More Awards

The Hopkins High School student newspaper, the Royal Page, is once again getting some national recognition.

The National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA) named the paper a finalist for the prestigious Newspaper Pacemaker Award—one of 18 finalists in the Newspaper Broadsheet 9-16 pages division. Entries were judged on coverage and content; quality of writing and reporting; leadership on the opinion page; evidence of in-depth reporting; layout and design; and photography, art and graphics.

The NSPA also selected Senior Naomi Borowsky, co-editor in chief of the Royal Page for 2013-14, as a finalist for the Story of the Year award for her feature article, “Bates reintroduces himself to HHS.”

Borowsky is a one of 10 finalists in the Feature category and the only finalist from Minnesota. Judges evaluated pieces on value, importance or worth of the story; quality of reporting and quotes; quality of writing and editing; credibility and leadership.

The winners will be announced Nov. 16 at the NSPA National High School Journalism Convention in Boston.

The Royal Page was under the direction of editors Lydia Wilson and Ursula Arhart and faculty adviser Jeff Kocur for the 2012-13 school year. Wilson and Arhart graduated in 2013.

Wilson is enrolled in the Newhouse School of Journalism at Syracuse University in New York. Arhart is pursuing a communications degree from Lewis and Clark University in Portland, OR.
