Evan Ray Headed Back to School

The Minnetonka High School student was severely injured in a February crash.

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story stated that Evan Ray's parents were killed in the Feb. 18 crash. In fact, Ray's father and his father's partner were killed. His mother was not involved in the accident, and Evan continues to reside with her.

Life changed for Minnetonka High School student Evan Ray on Feb. 18. On the way to his grandfather’s funeral in Fargo with Judith A. Reid and Sean L. Ray when the family’s car went out of control on the icy roads.

Both Reid and Sean Ray, Evan's father, died in the crash. Evan Ray sustained extensive head injuries and was in a coma for some time.

Ray’s life will never return to what it was before, but friends reported this week that he’s taking some big steps toward the routines of everyday life.

Ray has met with his teacher from Minnetonka High School Homebound and started classes through the program Monday, according to his CaringBridge page.

The Minnetonka Skipper mascot also visited Ray on Sunday and presented him with a senior homecoming T-shirt personalized with "E" on the back. Ray is expected to return to school in November.

The start of school followed a busy weekend. Ray went to the varsity soccer game Saturday, according to CaringBridge. He also attended a Twins game, where he enjoyed the Champions Club meal before the game and sat in the front row behind home plate.
