Winter Weather Advisory in Effect for Hennepin County

National Weather Service warns of potential for freezing rain and snow on Sunday.

Temperatures are finally heading back up, but not enough to keep another layer of wintry precipitation from sweeping through Hennepin County.

The National Weather Service has declared a winter weather advisory for Hennepin and surrounding counties, beginning Sunday morning and continuing through the evening.

Freezing rain is expected across the Twin Cities region during the late morning and afternoon hours. That may change to snow during the late afternoon and evening.

The weather service says there is a potential for one or two inches of snow, atop a layer of ice, which could have a big impact on Monday morning's commute.

On Monday and Tuesday, highs at the freezing level or above are expected, but subzero lows may return later in the week.
