City, ICA Snag Big Check

Reader's Digest awarded Minnetonka with a $1,000 cash prize. The money will help fund a local food shelf.

The Reader’s Digest 100 Cities/100 Days Tour stopped in Minnetonka Thursday to present the community with a check for $1,000. accepted the check on behalf of the , where the money will be used to support their mission.

According to a representative from Reader’s Digest, Minnetonka was chosen because the city was among the 100 cities in the county to receive the most cheers—or votes—in a Reader’s Digest online poll conducted earlier this year. Local Denise Leines nominated Minnetonka because, she said, the city’s food shelf needed more food and supplies.

Of the 100 cities awarded money as part of the Reader's Digest “We Hear You America” campaign, 90 cities, including Minnetonka, received checks for $1,000. Ten other cities received checks for between $10,000 and $40,000. Bloomington, St. Paul, Minneapolis, Eden Prairie and Duluth also received cash awards.

The Reader’s Digest 100 Cities/100 Days Tour kicked off January 21 in North Carolina and will make its last stop May 12 in New Hampshire.
