What’s This Land?: The Opus Station

Patch asked readers to guess what a key property would become after Southwest Light Rail arrives.

On Tuesday, Patch asked readers to guess what a piece of land with grass and trees is expected to become after Southwest Light Rail arrives. The answer is: the Opus Station platform.

This piece of property is near the point where Bren Road East and Bren Road West converge, just north of Red Circle Drive. Light rail trains should one day drop off people headed to work.

The area is an especially important one for the line because the Opus Business Park has about 14,000 jobs, according to the project’s Draft Environmental Impact Statement. Planners also expect higher-density housing close to the proposed station and a limited amount of retail and restaurants on the ground floor of nearby developments.

The business park should retain its park-like feel, but Minnetonka expects to rework the trails so they people can easily walk from the station to nearby buildings, said Julie Wischnack, Minnetonka’s community development director.
