VIDEO: Minnetonka Grad’s Music Video Premieres on MTV
John Mark Nelson's 'The Moon and The Stars' was filmed in Minnesota.
Minnetonka native John Mark Nelson has already wowed local audiences; now he’s getting some national attention.
On Monday, MTV premiered Nelson’s first music video featuring his song “The Moon and The Stars.” The video has hundreds of views. Nelson added the video to YouTube the same day and racked up more than 500 more views.
The Minnetonka High School grad has seen unusually early success. He’s been recording his compositions since the age of 14 and was profiled by 89.3 The Current in February, when he was just 19.

“The Moon and The Stars” has a sea shanty vibe, and the video takes place in a nautical environment. It was filmed in Duluth on the historic S.S. William A. Irvin, the flagship of U.S. Steel’s Great Lakes Fleet, according to Duluth Magazine.
Nelson's music, including “The Moon and The Stars,” is available on iTunes and BandCamp.
