Hopkins, Minnetonka Set to Play in Tip Off Classic

Girls and boys teams from both schools will take part in Breakdown Sports USA's annual basketball competition.

The Hopkins girls’ basketball team is the highlight of the Breakdown Sports USA Tip Off Classic games announced Tuesday evening.

The Royals, which Breakdown Sports has ranked No. 1 in Class AAAA, are set to play Anoka in the Dec. 7 event.

This year’s girls’ Tip Off Classic has 12 girls’ games and three boys’ games taking place at Hopkins High School’s Lindbergh Center on Dec. 7. Fifteen of the 24 girls’ teams are ranked in Breakdown Sports’ top 15 preseason rankings, including the No. 1 team in all four classes.

Minnetonka girls will join in the action, as well, when they take on Centennial.

In addition, Hopkins’ will be playing against St. Michael-Albertville in one of the boys’ games, and Minnetonka will take on Breck in another boys' game.

The boys’ Tip Off Classic takes place Dec. 14 at Minnetonka High School and features 15 boys’ games. Twenty-three of the 30 boys’ teams are ranked in Breakdown Sports’ top 15 preseason rankings, including the No. 1 team in two of the four classes.

The Skippers boys will take on Cretin-Derham Hall at the boys’ Tip Off Classic.

The Tip Off Classic began in January 2004 as a way to showcase unique matchups that might not otherwise be seen. It features more than 200 college prospects, including several who have already committed to Division I programs.
