Hopkins, Minnetonka Run Strong in Griak Invitational

The Royals boys finished 15th, and Minnetonka boys finished 32nd.

Hopkins was at the front of the pack when in the Larry Zirgebel H.S. Boys Gold Competition at Saturday’s 28th Annual Roy Griak Invitational, hosted by the University of Minnesota.

The Royals boys ranked 15th of the 51 teams in the division. The team’s 532 points were 416 points behind first place Wayzata’s 116 points.

Joe Klecker led the way for the team with a 16:20 time in the 5K race that was good for 22nd place overall out of 494 runners in the division. Jack Henschel’s time of 16:50 earned him 54th overall. And Hunter Staack placed 141st with 17:31.

In the Gary Wilson Girls H.S. Gold Competition, Isabel Hall was the first Royals runner in. Her time of 19:50.3 was good for 47th out of 460 runners in the division. Marla Bailey was just seconds behind with a 19:53.7 finish that earned her 54th. Elizabeth Klecker was next with a 20:20.5 time and 93rd-place finish.

Hopkins’ girls did not have a team score.

Minnetonka boys finished 32nd overall with Scott Kvidera leading the way. Kvidera time of 17:05 was 83rd overall. Jimmy Sebold came in next with a time of 17:27 that put him at 131st overall. Matt Wilkinson, who was third, had a time of 17:51 and a 214th-place finish.

Minnetonka did not have any girls in the race.
