Visions For Vacancies: Former Kmart

What should go in this unused Minnetonka space?

Visions for Vacancies is Minnetonka Patch's new weekly feature that looks at a vacant building and asks readers what they'd like to see there. This is your chance to dream big. If it were up to you, what would you open there?

The Kmart store at the intersection of Highway 7 and County Road 101 in Minnetonka closed in September 2009.

Kmart was the original tenant of the buidling, and Northern Tool moved to a part of the Kmart site in 2009 from Westwind Plaza. City of Minnetonka staff reports there is commercial interest is the Kmart site, but nothing has materialized.

This past Halloween, the temporary Spirit Halloween store set up shop for about a month.

7-Hi drive-in movie theatre was located on the Kmart site from the early 1960s–70s.

Yes! An entertainment venue would be fantastic. Especially with the high school so close, even visitors for tournaments would have somewhere to go between games.

It should be a combination of unique shops and restaurants, but not the large national box stores. We need better eating options in Minnetonka, but don't need the chain restaurants. Places like Yum! in St. Louis Park, or Pairings in Eden Prairie would be perfect.

M-m-m sounds like a good place for indoor Put-Put (was one accross the hwy). Video archade. surrounded by "food court" with a famiy play area. ? sample mall. Or wreck that ugly bldg. and make the ever popular "green space".

We need something INDOOR for our kids and It would be a wonderful space for park like Edinborough Park in Edina plus swimming space.I totally agree with the comment for sample mall but NOT CHUCKEE CHEESE in it!. We have such a long and cold winter so I totally support a place like this.It will be definitely a HIT!!!

How about a casino? It could have headliner shows, a buffet, slots, Black Jack, poker, etc., and possibly a hotel. It would generate some serious revenue for the city and create a few hundred jobs.
