Perry Vetter Named Minnetonka Assistant City Manager

Minnetonka City Manager Geralyn Barone announced Thursday that Perry Vetter has been named assistant city manager/director of administrative services, effective Aug. 30.

Minnetonka City Manager Geralyn Barone announced Thursday that Perry Vetter has been named assistant city manager/director of administrative services, effective Aug. 30. Vetter has most recently served as Minnetonka’s assistant director.

“We are thrilled to welcome Perry to our leadership team,” Barone said. “His intimate knowledge of Minnetonka, along with his rich experience of working with residents and employees alike, will serve the community well.”

Vetter began his career with the city in 1998 when he was hired as a recreation program manager. He held a number of positions in recreation, always increasing in responsibility. While in the recreation department, he began administration of the city’s $7.5 million voter-approved park renewal bond program to develop, improve and upgrade parks, trails and natural resource management areas. He also managed a $1.2 million budget for recreation services programming that served 35,000 attendees.

In 2005, Vetter moved to Minnetonka Public Works, where he continued leading the parks renewal program. He managed the parks and trails division and later added buildings and grounds to his responsibilities. This included overseeing 12 full-time and 18 part-time employees to manage 50 park locations, 80 miles of trails and more than 1,000 acres of public land, as well as 14 community buildings.

In addition to managing an operating budget of $2.5 million, Vetter implemented capital improvement projects for the parks and trails, and for municipal buildings to improve energy efficiency. He co-chaired the Public Works Labor Management Committee and assisted with union contract negotiations. He also served as the public works liaison to the Minnetonka Park Board and to the Minnetonka City Council.

Vetter capped his career at Minnetonka Public Works in 2010, when he was named assistant public works director with responsibility for managing the buildings and grounds division, park inspections program, residential recycling and GIS operations.

Most recently, Vetter has been responsible for the project near the , designed to create a welcoming experience for residents to enjoy Minnehaha Creek and the surrounding natural areas.

As assistant city manager and director of administrative services, Vetter will oversee human resources and labor relations, information technology, communications, the city clerk’s office and risk management. He will participate in city-wide budgeting and capital planning, will be responsible for the city’s performance management program and will serve as staff liaison to the park board.

“It has been a pleasure to work with the residents of Minnetonka and fellow employees in several capacities these past 13 years,” Vetter said. “With this new opportunity I am looking forward to continuing that dedication and commitment to serve the community.”
