Minnetonka School Board Elects Lisa Wagner as Leader
The School Board took care of its annual organization, as well as elected their chair on Jan. 3.
The following was released by Minnetonka Schools:
At its Annual Reorganizational Meeting on Jan. 3, the School Board elected Lisa Wagner as Chair, Charlie Kanan as Vice Chair, Lisa Sumner as Clerk and John Holcomb as Treasurer. The Board also set its 2013 meeting schedule.
The Minnetonka School District is governed by a seven-member School Board, elected at large to serve four-year terms. Elections are held in years ending in an odd number.
By statute, the Board holds a reorganizational meeting at its first Board meeting each January, during which the Board elects officers, sets Board salaries and the meeting schedule, and designates official District depositories, external auditors, legal counsel, and official newspaper and radio of record.
At the meeting on Jan. 3, former Board Chair Karen Walkowski nominated Wagner to lead the Board, noting her two years of service as Vice Chair and her experience in setting Board agendas and assisting with Board leadership.
Wagner was first elected to the Board in 2007. She has been actively involved on many District committees including leading CASE, a citizens legislative action committee advocating for school funding and student education with the state legislature. In addition to her Board service, Wagner has been a PTA leader at Minnewashta and was the Chair of the Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) Advisory Council. Wagner holds a B. A. in International Relations from Stanford University.
Board Meetings will continue to be Thursday evenings. The Board typically holds its regular business meeting on the first Thursday of each month and meets in study session on the third Thursday of the month. Exceptions to the Regular Meeting schedule occur in April and June. Agendas are posted to the District website on the Monday prior to each meeting.
Regular Meetings are video recorded for replay on Cable TV and webstreaming. [View full meeting schedule.] The District maintains a group email address for the School Board to easily facilitate constituent communication with the entire Board.
If you wish to communicate with the entire School Board, email: firstname.lastname@example.org. All Board members will receive your correspondence; the Board Chair or Vice Chair responds to emails on behalf of the Board.
