Inside the Numbers: Latest Demographics of Minnesota's 3rd Congressional District
About 665,000 people live in Minnesota's 3rd Congressional District, which is represented by Congressman Erik Paulsen (R).
The U.S. Census Bureau is, for the first time, providing access to detailed demographic data on individual congressional districts.
The total population of Minnesota’s 3rd District—which includes the Lake Minnetonka area, Maple Grove, Plymouth, Edina, Minnetonka, Chanhassan and Rogers —is 664,419, with a margin of error of +/- 5,209. More females (339,577) than males (324,842) live in the district, and the most populous age group is 45-54 (109,232).
Just under 38,000 veterans of the armed services live in the 3rd District, and the median household income is $73,468—the highest of Minnesota's eight districts.

An estimated 452,380 adults over the age of 25 live in the district, with about 45 percent possessing a bachelor’s degree or higher. Just over 95 percent have at least a high school education.
White is the dominant race, with 552,475, followed by African American (42,942), Asian (39,917), Hispanic (24,840) and American Indian (3,582). No Native Hawaiians or Pacific Islanders live in Minnesota’s 3rd Congressional District.
Approximately 271,738 housing units—63,287 of which are renter occupied—are located inside the district, with about 12,930 being classified as vacant.
