ICA Food Shelf Falls Short of World Record
Local food shelf takes a shot at a Guinness World Record.
The goal was 600,000 pounds of food. From 12 a.m. to 11:59 a.m. on Saturday, March 24, donations were brought to the Minnetonka Cub Foods after weeks of preparation, online auctions, food and cash drives.
The food shelf was able to collect 398,049 pounds of food during the time period.
"I think we fell short because we didn’t have enough time to really engage more Minnesota food companies," said Winona Kraft, ICA's special projects coordinator.
However, Kraft was impressed by the hard work of the volunteers. "They are rockstars," she commented.
From this effort alone, ICA Food Shelf will be able to provide non-perishable food to clients for nine months because of community support.
Kraft said there is no word on another world record attempt as of yet. "But stay tuned!"
