Congressman Paulsen Presents Hopkins Student with Service Medal
Britta Hanson received her Congressional Award Silver Medal this week from Congressman Erik Paulsen.
Youth Congressional Awards for Volunteer Services recognize young people who exemplify the principles of service, initiative, and achievement. To earn the award, students must set and achieve goals in four program areas: voluntary public service, personal development, physical fitness, and expedition/exploration. Students register with the Congressional Award Foundation, set his or her goals and work with advisors to achieve those goals.
Britta received her Congressional Award Bronze Medal for completing volunteer work at Mary’s Place. She helped children with homework and knitted hats to be donated to charity. Britta also increased her knowledge on Christian Science by studying the concept and history, and by attending daily lectures on the topic. For her Expedition, Britta took part in an outdoor excursion. Britta is also active at school, playing on her school’s softball team.
“It was a privilege to present Britta with this well deserved recognition,” said Rep. Paulsen. “Her hard work on behalf of underprivileged youth in her community should serve as an example for all Minnesotans.”
