Avoid Dangerous Skin Cancer
When the sun finally comes out, be sure to protect your skin.
We can’t wait for the sun to take up residence in Minnetonka again. But when it finally returns, don’t forget to take care of your skin. May is Melanoma Awareness Month.
Doctors, estheticians, dermatologists and spas across the country will be trying to raise awareness of this serious skin cancer and what you can do to prevent it.
Melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, is on the rise among Americans of all ages. There were about 68,000 new cases in the United States in 2009 and 8,700 deaths, according to the American Cancer Society.
Here are a few skin protection tips from the estheticians in our Spa:
- Wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF (Sun Protection Factor) of 15 or higher and apply it regularly.
- Wear sun-protective clothing and accessories, such as wide-brimmed hats and sunglasses.
- Avoid outdoor activities between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. when the sun's rays are the strongest.
In recognition of Melanoma Awareness Month, The Spa at The Marsh is hosting a Sunsational Skin Care event on Wednesday, May 4 from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. Get the details at SpaAtTheMarsh.com or call 952-935-8905.
